ok so i looked at some of my friends chevelles and i found this
![]() i went to 5 different chevelles from these chevelles 71 ss 72 ss 69 wagon 67 ss and a 70 malibu. none of them had this valve. i asked all of them why they dont have that valve in place. they told me they removed it because it was something they will not need anymore remove it and put the line in place and bleed your brakes and go. so is this valve really need? they all told me you dont need it remove it. and the picture is from my friends with a 69 wagon. he also told me that he is using all of the original hardware as in the distribution valve on the frame. any truth to this?

71 and 72 do not use that valve because the the distribution block on the frame takes care of what that valve does by the master cylinder. I have never tried running without it, but you could just change the block on the frame and not run with it.

Ok so i am still working on my brakes and i am having a hard time figuring out why i can bleed my rears. so i was told many things and finding many different answers. so i wanted to know what is the difference between the following
proportion valve? hold off valve? ![]() distribution block? Proprotion valve built into a distribution block? ![]() now what is the importance of the first picture to the brake system? i ask because i want to a car show with about 5 chevelles in it 69, 71,72,67, and 70 and none of them had it on they all had disc in the front and only one had manual brakes. and the 69 had this in its place ![]() i am thinking of moving mine from the distribution block from the frame to the master cylinder because of my headers. Its in the way and i its very hard to get to. thanks for the advice in advance

I forgot you have a 69 and the 70 with the button is a 1 year only.
proportion valve? hold off valve? ( (67 to 69) ![]() distribution block? I have seen a lot of cars with this valve that have headers, but is beyond my area of expertise on what all it replaces. Proprotion valve built into a distribution block?

i think i found the answers i was looking for
About what set-up you can have: http://www.chevelles.com/forums/show...00&postcount=2 ![]() The metering valve is the valve on the front part of the previous picture. It opens only at a certain pressure threshold (around 100 psi IIRC). This gives times for the rear to build up pressure to compensate for the rear shoe springs such that front & rear brakes are applied at the same time. The prop valve is the screw-in valve on the rear part of the previous picture. It some sort of pressure reducer. (more info here) The distribution block does only as its name says: It distributes the fluid to the front & rear brakes. It also have a switch (in the middle part) that lights up the brake warning light if the front or rear brakes show a pressure lost (i.e. a leak): ![]()
