So we went to LA on Thursday, August 29th, got there late at night. My son and I got back home late Wednesday night, September 4. Lynda stayed there with our daughter, she get's home tomorrow night. Henry and I had to unpack, repack, cut the grass, wash and wax the Chevelle and get ready for Frankenmuth Thursday, then up to Frankenmuth on Friday. Bottom line, didn't have time to post about our trip.
Friday we drove up to Malibu, hiked up a cliff that over looks the ocean then down to Marina DelRay. Susan lived there for awhile. Had lunch at the Cheesecake Factory. Didn't have any cheesecake but the rest of the food is over rated in my opinion. Saturday was my daughters graduation. USC graduated a few months ago and she attended that but it wasn't official for her. Her class still had clinical's to finish, she was done with those 2 days before graduation. They had a formal brunch and ceremony Saturday morning. The course she was in is a master's program and doesn't have the same semesters as the rest of the school. Basically 2 years straight, 50-60 hrs a week, mostly working in various hospitals. A few breaks at Christmas and Thanksgiving but pretty much year round. Not allowed to work while in this program and must show that you can support yourself without working while attending. "Mom, I need $2,000 for rent, food and car insurance." "Mom, I need to borrow $1,500 for rent and food." "Mom, ..........." We've helped best we can but she still has a mountain of dept in school loans. It was a small group, they only accept the top 20% of applicants into the program so only 16 in her class. She now has a masters in nurse anesthesiology. She also got a job at LA County Hospital, one of the hospitals she worked in for her clinical's. She still has to study and pass the examine before she can be licensed as a nurse anesthetist. In the meantime she's working part time at UCLA medical center to earn some money while she studies. Guess it sounds like I'm bragging. Well yea, I am, we're very proud of her. Our son too, he has a BS in accounting from U of M and masters in business administration. He's on course to earn more this year or at least next year than I ever earned. So back to the trip, in part 2. |
