Default On the subject of a 'smart' world...

I'm pretty sure everyone here has a cell phone and except for Tony, they're probably all smart phones. So how many of you can't go anywhere without your phone? How many have a panic attack if you discover you left it at home when you went out?

Last night we went out to dinner, Lynda, our son, his girlfriend and myself. So that's 4 phones, I know we each had one with us, but I didn't see any of them. They weren't in our hands or even on the table. We had an actual conversation, you know where people talk to each other, listen to each other and so on. But in the next booth the phones were out, no conversation. So I looked at the table over to my right, same thing, and the next table, ditto.

So why not get carry out or better yet get it delivered? Then you can sit on your couch, eat your food and play with your phone and maybe watch TV too? If you don't want to talk to the people you're with why go out to dinner with them? Stay home and have a relationship with your phone.

I'm sure you've all witnessed the same thing. It just kind of bothers me that people can't communicate in full sentences anymore. The extent of their language and communication skills is sending garbled text messages that require a secret decoder ring to decipher.

Leave mine at home when we go out ot dinner most of the time. if I don't I turn it down. I agree you see kids that are 7 or 8 or younger now sitting at tables playing on phones. They text the person sitting next to them. The art of conversion is lost.

Thats why most kids don't have an imagination anymore. They need to be entertained, when we were kids we could take a box and sticks and play most of the day. Everyone sits behind a computor or is texting all the time. I have people at work who can't put there phones down it seems.

We used to take orange crates, some 2x4's and old style roller skates and make scooters. Some of our neighbors would block off the streets and we would have races. The whole neighborhood would get involved. They would make snacks and lemonade.................wish the old times were still here.

I typically leave mine in the car, or have it on vibrate in my pocket. The only time I feel "naked" - is when I forget my gun.
