Only the SS had the blacked out bezels and the two center stainless strips deleted. Your Malibu should have the unpainted bezels.
Also, the 71' headlight bezels are different, look at the shape in the two pictures. The difference is very clear.

My 72 El Camino SS has the black bezels and Joans 72 Malibu has the chrome bezels ,but I understand some SS cars came with the chrome bezels as well.

The 72SS did have the blacked out bezel with a little chrome on the side. Problem was most of it fell off after a year or so.
