'Tis the season!

Mary and I are thinking about planting some new trees in the backyard. What's a good tree that looks nice but doesn't cause many problems with their roots, etc? Any suggestions would be great.

We planted a red oak and a crabapple tree in the back. Not supposed to have problems with exposed roots as we did our research. Just spent a ton taking out a silver maple that ruined the grass and top soil.

I like oak trees, we have a couple of red oaks. Only thing I don't like is they refuse to drop their leaves in the fall. They keep coming off over the winter and can kill the grass.

My wife really wants a red-bud. I hear they need some protection from the winter winds. I guess we could but it behind the house, that would block the west winds and the gazebo would block the north winds.

I would like to get one of those Japanese Maples, cutleaf maple. I seen different names for them They have very fine leaves, almost look like marijuana, they turn a deep crimson red. They're pretty delicate trees though and need protection. We had one at our other house, I was tempted to dig it up and bring it here.

If you get a small tree in 9 months in the back yard,then you'll know.
